The ABCs of STREET Photography

Disclaimer: This is a personal observation based on years of practice and perfection. Any discrepancies, please let me know. This guide is only meant for newbies, wanabes, and amateur professionals. This article is made in association with Project: EDUCATE. Next week: ABCs of Photojournalism.
A - Aperture
Commonly newbies would either flip out their gears and start with P mode. Get out of that Pansy mode! Shoot at F/5.6, or anywhere between F/4 to F/8. Control your camera as well as the environment you're in. Don't shy away and let the camera control you.
B - Balls
For the guys. For the ladies, think of owning a pair. Street photography is like being a photojournalist if you wish to be a voice of the society. Thus, knowing how to have the balls to go up to some old men eating chow mien in the middle of the street and take their photos take practice. You either act as a tourist, or

A - Agency
Are you affiliated with somebody in the media? No? Find one if you're truly aspiring to be a photojournalist. In any industry, you'll start from scratch, taking photographs of opening ceremonies, cheque presentations, traffic report, political speeches, and all those other mundane stuffs. Work your way up the ladder by proving yourself if you actually land a stint with the press. May take 4 to 6 years before you or your editor find the potential of working your own headlines. However, if you're on your own, you can either outsource yourself like what Peter Parker did in Spiderman, selling your photographs (as what CNN would call iReporters) to a pres

A - Artistic Nudes
Aaahh... what better to start off our ABCs with some nekkid photos... Artistic Nude's popularity has somewhat increased in the past 7 years of deviantArt's history. Photos of flesh not only excites, turns on, and make us get off (depending on how pervy one gets), it also shows the intricacies of how much details we see in each different human body with no strings attached. Artistic nudity does not reflect on porn at

Street and Photojournalism, a comprehensive guide.
Street photography in it self is quite confusing..  I mean, signs, lights, cars, etc..  They are all on the street, so they are street right?
Street is a little more complex, and back in the beginning was given an unfortunate name that many people dont understand.
Street photography is a type of documentary photography that usually features people in candid situations in public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions, and other settings.
A few examples of street:
The subject is obviously aware of the camera in his face, but the difference between this being street, or being a portrait, is the way the subject interacts with the scene.  It is not posed, not rehearsed, and MyPrivateParty's subject has just be chance, come down the street, not expecting to be photographed.

This was the final result of my exploration about anxiety. In this one, my goal was to demonstrate that when you're anxious, you're feeling thigthened. You have some dificulty to take your breath and there are different way to be anxious.

Thank you! Life is crazy, my friend. I wish I had the opportunity to post more. Couldn't get the creativity flowing for some time, and now it's back and I just don't have as much time as I would like. I think taking a break from it was what I needed because I came back renewed. And now I crave the camera in my hand but my free time is gone lol. Guess its always a catch-22 situation.

And how about you? How have you been?
kilted1ecosse Featured By Owner Aug 29, 2011
Guess I'm in the drought of creativity at present. Still aspire to to produce cracking shots, but seem to be more content with a fishing rod in my hand than with the camera at present. Am hoping the break might rejuvenate me too then. Other than that am good thanks, still trying to get over to the USA, but the whole green card thing is a bit complicated it appears!!
